How to Overcome Change Resistance in More Traditional Industries

change resistance in tradional business

Is your industry or organization reluctant to change? Look elsewhere first, learn and adapt!

When I talk to business owners and leaders from more traditional industries, functions or organizations about the latest trends in developing modern organizations or about major shifts in technology, I still often hear statements like, “Oh, we’re really not there, yet.   And we won’t have the budget to get there anytime soon.”

I really don’t think this is a very good, healthy and promising way to approach this.

To ignite the creation of a compelling future vision and to start changing, especially in traditional and more change-resistant industries,  consider exploring adjacent or entirely different sectors first.

This approach helps to grasp the broader trends and picture, which you can then adapt to your own field.

Identify similarities in their challenges and your challenges, and in their processes and your processes.

Gather a team of interested colleagues and begin creating ideas with the good old “How might we…?” Questions to start the conversation.

“How might we start using generative AI with limited or no budget?”

Or

“How might we be able to manage flexible working without risking productivity and quality?” And so on and so forth.

Share your findings and tell inspiring stories from other industries. Then, explain why you believe change and transformation are both inevitable and achievable at this point by sharing your initial ideas with the decision-makers and key people in your organization.
